Fifth in our Meet Our Suppliers series and this one is personal. It's the winery of our own hometown.
The wine from our own backyard, Mijas, where our story began.
This one is personal. Bodega Malvajío is the winery of our hometown, Mijas, in the hills above the Costa del Sol. It started the way the best things do: two friends, Antonio Mérida and Bernardo Pulido, sketching out their dream winery over a couple of glasses of wine. What grew from that is a true garage winery wine made by hand in tiny quantities, native yeasts, minimal intervention, labels stuck on one bottle at a time. Barely 15,000–20,000 bottles a year.
Their vines sit at around 400m on the south face of the Sierra de Mijas, cooled by sea breezes and mountain nights Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and more. From the fresh young Malavia to the flagship single-plot Caníbal, every bottle tastes of this specific corner of Málaga.
Bringing Malvajío to Amsterdam is exactly why we started The Wine Hustle: a real piece of home, made by people we're proud to know, poured for people who'll never have been.
